Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced Shivam Shukla as the replacement for Rovman Powell for the remainder of IPL 2025. The star West Indies all-rounder did not return for the second half of the tournament as he has been nursing an injury and is looking to get fit for upcoming international assignments.
As a result, KKR have named Shivam as his replacement. However, after their last clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was called off due to rain in Bengaluru, KKR are already knocked out of the playoff race. Hence, Shivam might get to play only one game for the defending champions.
Who is Shivam Shukla?
This mystery spinner from Madhya Pradesh has been impressive on the domestic circuit, especially in local T20 leagues. In the Madhya Pradesh T20 League, he was the leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in four matches, including a five-wicket haul. He also played under current RCB captain Rajat Patidar for Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024/25, where he took eight wickets in eight innings.

Shivam was previously associated with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as a net bowler and worked under the guidance of Muttiah Muralitharan. He even managed to dismiss Abhishek Sharma in the nets. However, before SRH could consider him further, KKR picked him as a replacement for the remainder of the season.
That said, KKR cannot retain Shivam as a permanent member for the upcoming seasons due to a recent tweak in the ‘Replacement Player’ rule. According to the latest BCCI guidelines, players who join franchises as temporary replacements cannot be retained for the upcoming seasons.
