The auction for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) is expected to take place in mid-December. According to sources, the most likely window for the mini-auction is between 13 and 15 December.

Franchise officials, following discussions with BCCI representatives, have told Cricbuzz that these dates are currently under consideration. However, the Governing Council has not confirmed anything yet.

It is almost certain that franchises will be required to announce their list of retained players by 15 November. At present, most teams are not expected to make significant changes to their squads, except for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who had poor performances last season. They finished 9th and 10th in the points table, respectively.

Reportedly, some of the players expected to be released by CSK include Sam Curran, Rahul Tripathi, and Devon Conway. With Ravichandran Ashwin having retired, ₹9.75 crore has been added back to CSK’s purse.

Similarly, Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana could be released by RR. Sanju Samson might be seen playing for a different franchise this season.

The last two auctions were held in Dubai in 2023 and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2024. This year, however, the auction is most likely to be held in India, although this has not yet been confirmed.
