Sameer Rizvi, the uncapped Uttar Pradesh batter, will play for Chennai Super Kings, after being sold for a staggering Rs 8.4 crore in the IPL auction 2024. Gujarat Titans were also in the race to pick up the young batter. His base price was 20 lakh
Rizvi is known for his pyrotechnics against spin on the domestic circuit. His prowess could be seen in the UP T20 League game between Kanpur Superstars and Meerut Mavericks, where he smacked the bowlers to all parts of the ground. His 59-ball 122, which piloted Kanpur to a famous win, comprised cross-batted shots over mid-wicket, lofts down the ground and over the cover region. In that tournament, he accumulated 455 runs.
In the Men’s Under-23 State A tournament, Rizvi also cracked a game-breaking 50-ball 84 in the final versus Uttarakhand. He has also played 11 List A games and 11 T20s so far. He averages 49.16 and has a strike rate of 134.7 in the shortest format. Rizvi had also scored a fine 75 in a low-scoring domestic T20 match this year.
