Rovman Powell, the West Indies skipper in the shortest format, was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for 7.40 crore in the 2024 IPL Auction held in Dubai. Powell’s base price was INR 1 crore but there was a bidding war between RR and Kolkata Knight Riders. Eventually, at 7.40 crore, KKR backed out. He was the first player to be bought in this IPL Auction.
Powell was released by Delhi Capitals after he scored just 7 runs over 3 matches in IPL 2023. In IPL 2022, too, he hadn’t performed up to expectations, compiling 250 runs at an average of 25 for the franchise. Powell has composed 1202 runs at an average of 26.71 for the West Indies. More importantly, his strike rate stands at a tad over 143. Powell has also scored 3369 runs at an average of 25.33 and strike rate of just under 140 in T20s, which is impressive.
Powell is renowned for his big-hitting prowess. One of the highlights of his career has been the 107 he cracked off just 53 balls against England at Bridgetown in a T20I last year. Along with that one hundred, he has aggregated 14 fifties in the shortest format.
Alongside DC, Powell has also played for Kandy Warriors, Delhi Bulls, Jamaica Tallawahs, Dubai Capitals, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, Barbados Royals and co.
