Travis Head, Australia’s 50-over World Cup hero, was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a price of INR 6.8 crore in the IPL Auction 2024. SRH and Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, were locked in a bidding competition. However, it was SRH that would now get the chance to avail the services of the Australian opener.
For a few minutes, no team bid for Head before SRH stepped in. The left-handed opener was in supreme touch in the just concluded World Cup, accumulating 329 runs at an average of just over 50. He also got those runs at an impressive strike rate of 127.51. He went on to play a game-breaking knock in the World Cup final versus India in Ahmedabad. In the T20 format, Head has accrued 2494 runs at an average of 27.71 and at a strike rate of 134.15.
Head’s highest score of 101 not out in this format came during the 2015-16 Big Bash League season for Adelaide Strikers against Hobart Hurricanes. Along with that one ton, Head also 10 fifties to his name.
Head has already played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. His IPL numbers are as follows: 205 runs with the highest score of 75 not out, an average of 29.29. Head’s highest score of 75 in the IPL came for RCB against Kolkata Knight Riders back in March 2017. He was unsold at last auction.
