England Women’s fast bowler Kate Cross has admitted that being left out of the squad for the Women’s World Cup “feels savage,” saying the decision was difficult for her to accept.

Despite her rich experience and recent return from injury, the 33-year-old seamer has not been included in Charlotte Edwards’ 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, starting on September 30.

“What I’m really struggling to get my head around is it all feels like it’s happened so quickly,” Cross said on the No Balls podcast. “I’ve just clearly fallen out of favour with Lot [Edwards]. I haven’t processed it. It’s still really raw.”

Cross has been working to regain form since her back injury in 2024. She featured in the first ODI against India last month but did not play the remaining two matches. That, she admitted, was the moment when she realised her World Cup spot was in doubt.

“Being in the best XI is a different conversation. But not being on the plane – it feels savage,” Cross explained. She also admitted that the news of her omission was “one of the worst” moments of her career, saying it made her feel “quite sick.”

At the same time, Cross expressed gratitude for the support she has received. “The messages I’ve had from everyone have been amazing,” she said. “But it’s hard to take because I don’t feel like I’ve done enough to deserve not being on that plane,” she added.

Cross is currently busy playing in the ongoing Women’s Hundred tournament for Northern Superchargers.
