Former India spinner Anil Kumble believes that opener Yashasvi Jaiswal got run-out because of his own error. Speaking on JioHotstar, Kumble also raised a question about the umpire’s decision of not referring it for a review.

“It was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fault. He wouldn’t have made it even to the non-striker’s end because it went straight to the mid-off fielder,” he told. “There was absolutely no chance. The only doubt was whether the keeper had full control of the ball when the bails came off. But the umpire didn’t even refer it to the third umpire, and that to me was a bit of a surprise.”

Indian fans were hoping for a double-hundred from Jaiswal as the young opener was unbeaten on 173 at the end of day one. He faced just five more deliveries on day two and scored only two runs before his unfortunate dismissal.

Jaiswal got a full-length delivery and drove it to mid-off, immediately setting off for a single. But, captain Shubman Gill, who was the non-striker, turned around to see where the ball had gone and declined the run. As Jaiswal attempted to return to the crease, it was too late. Tagenarine Chanderpaul threw the ball to wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, who completed the run-out with ease. The 23-year-old batter seemed very disappointed after the dismissal.
