Marnus Labuschagne, one of Australia’s key batters, believes that South Africa are a well-balanced side and expects the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at the iconic Lord’s to be a great contest. The WTC 2025 Final is scheduled to take place at Lord’s from 11 to 15 June.

Speaking about their opponents, Labuschagne told the ICC: “Africa have been a very good team in this cycle, on paper it’s a well-balanced side and they have some really nice players.” He added, “It will be a good challenge for us, and we are going to have to be on our game. Playing at Lord’s is always special with the history and what is involved with playing there. It’s going to be an awesome week and another great match.”

“Every time Test cricket is on, people want to watch it.” – Marnus Labuschagne

Labuschagne was part of the Australian squad that won the WTC title in 2023 against India at The Oval in London. This time, he will be facing the country of his birth—South Africa—in the final. He also reflected on the broader role of Test cricket and its support across the cricketing world.

“Every time Test cricket is on, people want to watch it. India, Australia and England are probably carrying a bit of the load of Test cricket, but we really want to see all the countries keep producing great players and being part of upholding such an amazing tradition of Test cricket.”

The right-handed batter is no stranger to English conditions, having spent considerable time playing County cricket.
