“It’s an honour to lift the cup” – Keshav Maharaj shares emotional moment after winning WTC 2025 Final

It was an emotional moment for South African cricketer Keshav Maharaj as South Africa defeated Australia by five wickets in the WTC 2025 Final. The Proteas chased down the 282-run target and won the game as Aiden Markram bagged the player of the Match award for his 136-run knock.

After the match, while interacting with former African captain Graeme Smith, Keshav’s words trembled with tears in his eyes as he spoke about the team’s victory.

“It’s special, it’s an honour to lift the cup for everyone out here and back home. It’s what the country’s about, the unity among everyone in the last five days. We’re very grateful, as a team as a nation, as a proud country. I think the emotions would’ve spurred me into the right direction had I got into bat,” Keshav told Smith.

Keshav contributed for the Proteas with seven runs with the bat and one wicket with the ball. His tears of joy indeed portrayed the love he has for his team and for the fans, for whom he also shared a heartfelt message during the interaction.

After a teary Keshav witnessed a historic victory, the cricketer gave a heartfelt thanks to the Proteas fans who have been with them throughout the journey.

“Thanks to everyone who’s been supporting us, through adversity we’ve stood strong. We honour those who’ve come before us, may this be a stepping stone for greater things to come,” Keshav said.
