Mitchell Starc has finally spoken up on his decision not to return to the IPL 2025 after the tournament’s resumption in his recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald. The Australian bowler mainly talked about the concerns he had after witnessing the circumstances that left the PBKS vs. DC match suspended and the immediate evacuation of both teams in Dharamsala.

“I’m comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled. That’s why I made my decision post-that, and my focus changed to red-ball cricket for about a week prior to coming over here. Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn’t return. But I’ve had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously, we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision,” said Starc.

“There was a little bit of that to my decision around the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. And then once the tournament was delayed you start to think about guys’ preparation for the Test match,” he further added.

Starc Was Also Not Part of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy

Not just the IPL, but Starc also decided not to be part of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and Dubai. He, along with his wife, Alyssa Healy, immediately flew back to Australia once the IPL 2025 season got suspended for a week.

He, along with Jake Fraser-McGurk, were the only players that did not return to the Delhi Capitals squad for the remainder of the IPL season. However, the Australian cricketer has given his commitment towards the franchise that got him in the auction for INR 11.75 crore.

“I’m still heavily committed to the Delhi group, and I’m not someone that’s gone into tournaments and pulled out after being picked up in an auction or whatever that looks like. These are different circumstances,” said Starc.
