James Anderson, Shakib Al Hasan, and Aiden Markram are among the big names set to feature in the SA20 2026 auction. A total of 541 players will go under the hammer on September 9, making it one of the biggest cricket auctions of the year.
Anderson, the former England fast bowler, will be 43 when the tournament starts. He returned to T20 cricket last year after more than a decade and is now set to join 96 other English players in the auction pool. This group also includes Moeen Ali, Alex Hales, and Tom Abell, the player of the match in the 2024 final.
From Bangladesh, experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and pacer Mustafizur Rahman lead the list of 14 players. Australia has only two representatives—D’Arcy Short and Peter Hatzoglou—because the Big Bash League overlaps with the SA20. Other entries include 28 players from the West Indies, 24 from Sri Lanka, and one from Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee.
The maximum entries are from South Africa, which has enlisted 300 players, led by Aiden Markram, who has decided not to stay with Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The list also features Anrich Nortje, Quinton de Kock, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Gerald Coetzee. From India, 13 players have enlisted their names, including Piyush Chawla, Siddharth Kaul, and Ankit Rajpoot.
In total, 241 overseas players will compete for 25 spots, while 300 South Africans will compete for 59 places. Pretoria Capitals have the biggest budget of R32.5 million, while MI Cape Town have the smallest at R11.5 million. Each team must also sign at least two Under-23 players.
