During a press conference ahead of the first T20I against Ireland, Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah shared insights about his recovery process. He stressed upon that his rehabilitation wasn’t focused solely on T20 cricket but rather on preparing for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.
Bumrah’s last appearance for the national team was in a T20I match against Australia in Hyderabad in September, 2022. Following that, he underwent back surgery due to a back injury, which kept him out of action.
However, Bumrah’s eagerly awaited return to international cricket took place when he was appointed as the captain of the Indian team for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland.
“In my rehab, I was never preparing for T20 game, I was always preparing for World Cup competition. I have been bowling 10-12-15 overs, I knew I was preparing for World Cup. I have a lot of overs under my belt,” said Jasprit Bumrah in the press conference ahead of the first T20I against Ireland.
Anticipation has been building around Bumrah’s comeback, considering his prolonged absence due to the back injury. The series against Ireland holds significant importance, marking not only his highly awaited return to the field but also his leadership skills being put on display.
The Bumrah-led Indian team will face Ireland in the opening match of the T20I series at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Dublin on August 18.
