Cricket’s inclusion at the 2028 LA Olympics is an exciting prospect to many, one that will help the growth of the sport in Associate nations and increase its global standing. International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah and International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Kirsty Coventry had a meeting earlier this week in Switzerland to chart cricket’s return to the Olympic Games. The two chiefs discussed the progress of the move and how the Olympics can benefit from cricket’s inclusion.

“It was a pleasure to meet with IOC President Kirsty Coventry to continue our ongoing discussions on the road to @LA28 and Cricket’s return to the Olympic Games. We reflected on the progress made so far and the significant role cricket can play in the growth of the Olympic movement,” Shah posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Cricket was last played in the Olympics in 1900 and its reintroduction is a major milestone. The inclusion is expected to attract not only new audiences from cricket-crazy nations such as India, Pakistan, England, Australia and more; but also competitors. It will give Associate nations a platform to showcase their talent on a global stage. The 2028 LA Olympics has approved the T20 format of the game.
