New Zealand pace bowler Jess Kerr believes that warm-up matches will be very important in their preparations for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
“Yeah, I think it’s again just more game time, which is good for us,” said Kerr after a training session. “We’ve not had a whole heap of that this year, so getting those sort of formulas in place, finding ways to win, which will be important.”
New Zealand will play against India A and India on September 25 and September 27, respectively. They will start their campaign in the tournament proper on October 1 in Indore. The 12th-ranked bowler in the Women’s ODI rankings, Kerr believes that how well they get used to the Indian pitches and conditions will be crucial in their journey in this World Cup.
“We’re in India now playing in Indian conditions, that’s (adapting) going to be really important,” she said. “But yeah, everything’s leading up to that first game and we want to be really clinical with what we can put out against Australia in game one.”
The 27-year-old bowler also believes that the training camp that they had a few months ago in India helped them a lot in terms of preparations.
“Yeah, it’s definitely a challenge being a pace bowler, but I think just being able to keep the stumps in play for as long as possible and being able to go to that batting camp in Chennai was of huge value,” she added.
