India’s legendary player, Jhulan Goswami was thrilled about the hike in prize money for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. She shared her reaction on ICC Hindi Instagram channel, thanking the ICC.

“I am getting goosebumps. [The increased prize money] is a very good thing. I would like to thank ICC from my side. The way they have thought of this, I think definitely women’s cricket will get a lot of boost in this.”

The prize pool has gone up to USD 13.88 million. There is an increase of 297% from the last edition. The Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023 had a prize pool of USD 10 million. The winners of the trophy will get USD 4.48 million while the other finalist will get USD 2.24 million. The teams that will be eliminated from the semi-finals will get USD 1.12 million each, while all the other teams that have qualified in the tournament will get USD 250,000.

Goswami also said this would encourage more parents to consider cricket as a profession for their daughters.

“And for [budding women’s cricketers’] parents, too. It is a reassurance that this sport can be played professionally and taken forward. So, I think this is great news for women’s cricket and I think this will definitely motivate all the players as well.”

The first match of the tournament will be played between the India Women’s team and the Sri Lanka Women’s team on September 30 in Guwahati.
