England Women lost the five-match T20I series 3–2 to India Women after a closely contested set of games. The home side lost the first two matches before making a strong comeback in the third. India sealed the series by winning the fourth T20I, but England ended on a high with a thrilling win in the final game at Birmingham.
Both of England’s victories came in tight finishes, but they were not enough to overturn India’s early dominance in the series.
Despite the series loss, England head coach Charlotte Edwards made a bold statement, urging fans and critics to stay patient and judge the team by their performance at the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in England.
“We’ve still got a long way to go, I’m under no illusions about that. People have just got to be patient. And certainly in this format, we’ve got 12 months. You can judge us, come next July,” Edwards said.
Edwards reiterated that the team is still in a transition phase, something she has stressed since England’s Ashes loss. Over nine players from that squad featured in this India T20I series, highlighting the ongoing shift in personnel.
The absence of senior players like Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, both ruled out due to injury, further compounded England’s challenges throughout the series.
One of the standout issues for England during the series was their poor fielding standards, which Edwards admitted fell short of expectations. “It’s a mindset thing under pressure, but it’s an area we work really, really hard on,” she said. “We are not going to hide away from that.”
