Kane Williamson is set to return for New Zealand in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, starting later this month. However, the talismanic batter will not feature in the three-match T20I series, which begins on October 18. White-ball captain Mitchell Santner, who missed the recent series against Australia, will return for the T20Is.

Due to a minor medical issue, Williamson will not take part in the T20I series. The former New Zealand captain has not played international cricket since the Champions Trophy final against India in Dubai.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said that Williamson is preparing for the 50-over matches against the visiting England side.

“He’s obviously a world-class player, and we’re hoping these two weeks will ensure he’s ready for the ODIs against England and the following tour by the West Indies,” Walter said in a statement.

Walter, though, is elated to have Santner back in the squad. “It’s great to have Mitch (Santner) back,” he said. “Alongside being our leader, he’s one of the very best white-ball spinners in the world, and his skills and experience will be a welcome addition.”

Also returning after recovering from injuries are Rachin Ravindra (facial) and Ben Sears (hamstring).

“Likewise, it’s nice to welcome back Rachin, who was unlucky to miss the Australia series, and I know he’s really excited for this one,” he said.

England’s white-ball tour of New Zealand begins with the first T20I at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 18, with the second match also set for the same venue on October 20. Auckland will host the third and final T20I. Following the T20Is, a three-match ODI series is scheduled to be played from October 26 to November 1.

New Zealand T20I Squad:

Mitchell Santner (C), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Bevon Jacobs, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Robinson, Tim Seifert (wk).
