The Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team secured a 3-2 win over Uruguay in their second match of the Four Nations Tournament, a friendly competition taking place in Rosario, Argentina, on 26th May 2025 (IST). India’s goals came from Sonam (21’) and Kanika Siwach (46’, 50’), while Uruguay’s scorers were Milagros Seigal (3’) and Agustina Mari (24’).
Uruguay started strongly, taking the lead in the 3rd minute when Milagros Seigal converted a penalty corner. India responded in the second quarter, levelling the score through Sonam’s penalty corner strike in the 21st minute. However, Uruguay were quick to regain the advantage, as Agustina Mari netted from another penalty corner just three minutes later.
India will next take on hosts Argentina on 28th May 2025 (IST)
With both sides unable to break the deadlock by the end of the third quarter, the match was finely poised. But Kanika Siwach turned the game in India’s favour in the final quarter, scoring twice in quick succession. She first equalised via a penalty corner in the 46th minute and then put India ahead with a field goal in the 50th minute, sealing a well-earned win for her team.
