Khaleel Ahmed’s time with Essex has come to an end earlier than planned, as the left-arm pacer is coming back home for personal reasons. He just played two matches in the ongoing County Championship.
Initially, he was signed for two months in which he was expected to play six first-class matches along with ten List A matches in the One-Day Cup. But the stint ended after he managed only four wickets in two matches at an average of 64.50.
Essex picked him up after his fantastic performance of 4/70 against England Lions playing for India A last month.
Essex confirmed his departure: “While we are disappointed to see him leave, we fully support Khaleel’s decision and are grateful for the contributions he made during his time with us.”
Khaleel last played for the national team in 2024. He has taken part in 11 ODIs for India, picking up 15 wickets at an average of 31.00. He is an important player for Rajasthan in domestic cricket. He has taken 60 wickets in 22 outings at an average of 30.13 in his first-class career. He will be a contender to be picked in the upcoming inter-zonal Duleep Trophy with which India’s red-ball domestic season will start.
In the 2025 IPL, Khaleel played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 14 matches and took 15 wickets at an economy rate of 9.57. He often provided early breakthroughs for CSK.
