The Union Sports Ministry is taking proactive steps to enhance medical facilities for the upcoming Khelo India Para Games in New Delhi, scheduled from December 10 to 17. Recognizing the unique medical needs of para athletes, the National Centre of Sports Science and Research (NCSSR), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), is deploying professionals trained in managing diverse medical conditions.

The NCSSR, focusing on sports sciences and sports medicine, aims to support research and innovation for elite athletes. To ensure the safety and well-being of para athletes during the Khelo India Para Games, comprehensive medical coverage will be provided. This includes emergency medical services, on-site medical teams, and access to necessary healthcare facilities.

Brigadier Bibhu Nayak, Director-in-Charge of NCSSR, emphasized that every effort has been made to ensure para athletes receive the required medical support during the games. The medical cover plan encompasses dedicated support staff at the venues, resuscitation and stabilization rooms, and a sufficient number of ambulances for immediate evacuation. Collaborations with major hospitals like AIIMS, Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, and Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital have been established for emergency services and imaging facilities. A 50-bed ICU facility at Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Hospital is reserved for emergencies.

The medical staff, including medical officers, nursing assistants, physiotherapists, psychologists, and nutritionists, has undergone sensitization and training to address any contingency. The Sports Nutritionists of SAI have planned a specific food menu tailored to meet the unique nutritional requirements of para athletes. With at least 60 staff members deployed across the venues—JLN Stadium, IG Stadium, and Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range—the Khelo India Para Games are poised to provide a safe and supportive environment for participating athletes.
