Kolkata Knight Riders are in talks with former wicket keeper Vijay Dahiya to rope him into their coaching staff for the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting Friday. Dahiya, who was with Lucknow Super Giants as an assistant coach to Gautam Gambhir since the inception of the franchise in 2022, parted ways with the Justin Langer-coached side this January.
The move would reunite Dahiya with Gambhir, who is currently the mentor of KKR. Dahiya shared a close working relationship with the former India opener at LSG. Earlier this year, Gambhir left LSG to return to KKR as a mentor.
Sources say that Dahiya won’t join KKR as an assistant coach, rather he would sign up and work with the wicketkeepers. KKR have KS Bharat, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Phil Salt as their primary wicket-keeping options.
Notably, Dahiya has a connection with KKR. He was the assistant coach of the franchise from 2009 to 2014. However, there is no confirmation as to when Dahiya will join the team.
KKR will play their opening game of IPL 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens on March 23.
