Kolkata Knight Riders are set to play all their home matches in next year’s IPL at Eden Gardens, RevSportz understands. It is learnt that the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has sent a letter to the KKR management, confirming that the state association would be able to host the home fixtures of the defending IPL champions next season.
Eden Gardens is set to undergo renovation ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup that would be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. As regards the commencement of the stadium’s makeover, the CAB hasn’t decided the date yet. But it is likely to start after the 2025 IPL.
KKR players and coaching staff have time and again spoken about the team’s love affair with Eden and Kolkata. The team’s former mentor Gautam Gambhir even returned to shoot a farewell video at the venue after he was appointed the Indian team’s head coach. KKR’s title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer, too, has spoken about Eden’s positive vibe.
The Kolkata-based franchise, however, has released Iyer ahead of the November 24-25 mega auction. The franchise CEO Venky Mysore told RevSportz in an exclusive interview that the middle-order batsman was top in their retention list, but things didn’t work out. Grapevine has it that Delhi Capitals are ready to break the bank for Iyer at the auction, as they are considering him as a serious captaincy option.
Coming back to KKR’s home matches next term, some reports suggested that the under construction international stadium at Narsingarh in Tripura could be their second home ground. That is unlikely to happen.
