A few weeks ago, in an exclusive chat with RevSportz, when Sai Sudharsan was asked about his long-term dream of playing for India, he remained grounded and focused on the present. “That is the bigger picture, the beautiful art everybody wants to see. Every player wants to play for their country and win games. But, right now, my first thing is to make GT win whenever possible. Make them qualify for the playoffs and win this IPL,” he said.

And Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan is taking baby steps in that direction with the consistency he has been showing. After today’s knock of 52 (36) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata in the ongoing IPL 2025, Sai Sudharsan is now the Orange Cap holder, scoring 417 runs in eight innings so far, at an average of 52.12 with a strike rate of 152.18, including five fifties.

“I enjoy Gill’s company, his experience also really helps me.” – Sai Sudharsan

Put into bat first, Sai Sudharsan opened the innings alongside captain Shubman Gill. Though the duo began cautiously, they gradually found their rhythm as the powerplay progressed. Ultimately, they added 114 runs for the first wicket in 12.2 overs, and GT eventually posted 198/3 in 20 overs.

After the innings concluded, while talking to the broadcaster, Sai said: “At the start of the game the wicket was really slow and we found it really difficult in the powerplay. We tried to make use of the bad balls and we had great communication out there. I enjoy Gill’s company, his experience also really helps me. It matters when the conditions are difficult and we try to make use of the running between the wickets. We understood the wicket was difficult so we tried to bat deep because wickets in hand is the most important thing. To be honest, we have given the bowlers a very good total to defend.”
