Virat Kohli has been named in Delhi’s squad for the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced. Rishabh Pant will lead the 20-member squad, while Ayush Badoni has been named as his deputy.
As reported earlier by RevSportz, Kohli was tipped to play the initial matches of the tournament. On December 2, DDCA president Rohan Jaitley confirmed that Kohli and Pant had made themselves available for selection.
After an underwhelming series Down Under, Kohli struck two centuries and a half-century in the three-match ODI series against South Africa. Kohli’s last appearance for Delhi came earlier this year when he turned up for the one-off Ranji Trophy match.
Along with Kohli, other prominent names set to feature in the tournament include Ishant Sharma, Nitish Rana, Navdeep Saini and Priyansh Arya. Harshit Rana will link up with the squad when available.
Pant is likely to don the gloves, with Anuj Rawat and Tejasvi Singh the other wicketkeepers in the squad.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy kicks off on December 24. Delhi, placed in Group D, will play all its group-stage matches in Bengaluru. Kohli will be in action in the first two games against Andhra and Gujarat.
