After India’s nine-wicket win over Australia, in the third ODI, in Sydney, Virat Kohli spoke about his long-standing partnership with former captain Rohit Sharma, highlighting how their understanding has grown over the years.

Kohli said in the post-match presentation, “I think, from early on, we’ve understood the situation well, that’s what we’ve always done well (as a pair). I think it all started in 2013 (the home series against Australia).

“If we put up a big partnership, play around 20 overs, we know we’ll go a long way in helping the team win and even the opposition realise it,” he added.

Earlier in the series, Kohli had struggled with two consecutive ducks, but at the Sydney Cricket Ground, he was calm and focused. He remained unbeaten on 74 runs off 81 balls, which included seven boundaries at the strike rate of 91.37. Rohit, on the other hand, scored an unbeaten 121 runs off 125 balls.

The duo together added 168 runs from 170 balls for the second wicket, showing their experience in Australian conditions. Incidentally, India suffered two ODI defeats in Perth and Adelaide, but the duo helped their side to avoid a whitewash in the series, as the tourists won with 69 deliveries to spare.

India will now play a five-match T20I series against Australia starting on October 29, in Manuka Oval.
