
Indian shooters Kynan Chenai and Sabeera Haris secured a bronze medal in the Trap Mixed Team event as the third stage of the ISSF Shotgun World Cup wrapped up in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Indian duo edged past Turkey’s Tolga Tuncer and Pelin Kaya in a closely contested bronze medal match, winning 34-33 at the Cyprus Olympic Shooting Range.
In the qualification round, Kynan and Sabeera placed fourth out of 34 participating teams with a combined score of 142 over 75 shots each. Sabeera delivered a strong performance with rounds of 23, 25, and 24 for a total of 72, while Kynan contributed 70 points (23, 25, 22). The second Indian team, comprising Shardul Vihan and Kirti Gupta, scored 137 to finish 17th.
In the medal match, Kynan’s experience proved crucial as he hit 23 of his 25 targets, the highest among all shooters in the round. His sharp shooting helped India prevail by a narrow margin, marking the nation’s first medal in the ISSF Shotgun World Cup this year.
Meanwhile, China, who were second in qualifying, overcame Poland 42-39 to take the gold. The Neutral Athletes emerged as the top performers in the overall standings, claiming two of the five gold medals awarded. The remaining three golds were split among China, Spain, and Italy. Overall, 12 of the 54 participating National Olympic Committees (NOCs) earned medals at the event.
