Cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles Olympics, a story RevSportz had been tracking from March 2023, is finally in its home stretch. Highly placed sources revealed that after much deliberation and negotiations, LA 28 is all set to make its recommendations to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the very end of this month.
“Yes, LA will make its recommendations to the IOC fag end of this month and will also make an announcement to that effect,” the source told RevSportz.
The IOC Executive Board is then expected to approve it just before the IOC session in Mumbai and a formal announcement is expected in Mumbai during or immediately after the India-Pakistan World Cup encounter on October 14.
“Unless things go wrong from here, which is unlikely, this is the timeline that should happen from here on,” confirmed the source. “With the World Cup in progress, there is no better time for the formal announcement.”
As reported earlier, the inclusion of cricket would open up a huge South Asian market for the IOC, and help in the further globalisation of the Olympic movement. A significant chunk of revenue is expected to flow once the formal announcement is made.
Multiple meetings have already happened and several rounds of negotiations have gone on in the last few months. Now, all things going well, it is only a matter of weeks before a formal recommendation on the inclusion of cricket is made by LA28.
