Let’s Move Global Initiative: Inspiring Active Lifestyles for a Healthier World

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has launched Let’s Move, a global initiative aimed at addressing the lack of physical activity among people, particularly young individuals. Research indicates that more than 80% of young people fail to meet the recommended daily activity levels necessary for optimal mental and physical health. In response to the growing concerns of sedentary lifestyles and related health issues such as obesity, the Let’s Move campaign encourages individuals, especially children and youth, to engage in regular physical activities and adopt healthier lifestyles, utilizing digital platforms for amplification.

On June 23, 2023, a state-wide activation will take place in Odisha to celebrate Olympic Day, wherein more than 65,000 schools will participate in the Let’s Move Campaign. This event will mark the largest activation worldwide, involving 7.2 million school children engaging in 30 minutes of meaningful physical activities. Notably, Odisha previously launched the Olympic Values Education Programme in collaboration with the Olympic Foundation for Culture & Heritage, the IOC, and the Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust. This program has yielded positive results, with children displaying improved physical activity levels, discipline, classroom engagement, and a new perspective on sports. It has also contributed to increased school enrollment, attendance, and improved learning outcomes. Currently, the program is being implemented in 250 schools across Odisha, with the potential to impact 7 million school children in the state.
