Bangladesh T20I skipper Litton Das has called out the selectors for a lack of communication after Shamim Hossain was dropped for the first two T20Is against Ireland.
While announcing the squad, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain said that they were dropping Shamim to give Mahidul Islam Ankon a chance in the middle order.
“I think it would have been better if [Shamim] had been in the team. But this is not my call; it is totally the selectors’ call,” Litton said. “I don’t know why, but the selector dropped Shamim without giving us any notice. I have always known that a captain would know which player would be in the team and which player would be left out. I don’t see any reason behind Shamim being dropped. It would have been better if he had been in the team.”
Neither Litton nor head coach Phil Simmons were involved in the discussions of the selection committee. Litton revealed that he has been told by the board to work with whatever players are selected.
“The selection panel and the board have told me that I have to work entirely with whatever team they have selected. I cannot have a say in which player I want or do not want. I have always known that a captain needs a plan for organising the team. Recently, I have been informed that my job is to deliver something good on the field with the team I have been given,” Litton added.
