Put into bat first against the Delhi Capitals (DC), the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batters started well and, at one point, looked set for a big total close to 200. However, they lost their way in the middle overs. In a surprising move, Rishabh Pant, the captain of LSG, came in to bat at number 7 — a decision that took everyone by surprise.

The LSG innings picked up from the second over when Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram scored nine runs off it. At the end of the powerplay, LSG were 51 for no loss. Marsh and Markram added 87 runs for the first wicket in 10 overs before Markram got out after scoring 52 off 33 balls at a strike rate of 157.58, which included two fours and three sixes. He was the highest scorer for LSG.

Between the 10th and 14th overs, LSG lost their momentum, losing four crucial wickets for just 23 runs.

Pant came to bat at No. 7

After Marsh was bowled by Mukesh Kumar with a brilliant yorker, everyone expected the captain to come to the crease and take charge. But to everyone’s surprise, Ayush Badoni came in as an impact player.
Twas heavy strapping on Pant’s right hand. However, there were no major concerns as confirmed by Pant during the toss, “Hand is okay,”. In the last five overs, LSG managed to score only 41 runs, and when Pant finally came to bat, there was no time left for him to make an impact. He got out for a duck off two balls. In the end, LSG could only manage 159 for 6 in their 20 overs.
