Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by eight wickets in the 40th match of IPL 2025 at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on April 22.
Rishabh Pant came to bat at No. 7
When LSG lost four wickets between the 10th and 14th overs, it was natural to expect that captain Rishabh Pant would come in and take charge in the middle. But to everyone’s surprise, it was Ayush Badoni who came in to bat in place of Mitchell Marsh, and that too as an Impact Sub. It was a decision that backfired badly for LSG, as they managed to score only 41 runs in the last five overs. By the time Pant finally came out to bat, there was absolutely no time left for him to make an impact in the game. He was dismissed for a duck off just two balls.
DC’s Batting
Chasing a target of 160 in 20 overs, three partnerships sealed the match for DC. Openers Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair put together 36 runs. Then, Porel and KL Rahul added 69 runs. Finally, Rahul stitched an unbeaten 56-run partnership with captain Axar Patel to guide DC to victory. Both Porel and Rahul scored half-centuries—Porel made 51 runs, while Rahul remained unbeaten on 57.
Mukesh Kumar’s Impact
Mukesh Kumar was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance, taking 4/33 in his four overs at an economy rate of 8.20. He dismissed Mitchell Marsh with a brilliant yorker, got Abdul Samad out cheaply, removed the in-form Ayush Badoni in the final over, and bowled Pant on the last ball of the innings.
