Indian shuttlers are off to a positive start after having below par performances in the past few tournaments. Following a tame Sudirman Cup performance, expectations were high for a strong comeback. And India’s men’s singles players H.S Prannoy and Satish Karunakaran have delivered on the promise.
Prannoy staged a positive comeback against Japan’s Nishimoto and clinched the third game to win the match 19-21, 21-17, 21-16. Prannoy initially was training but made a brilliant effort against 12th ranked Nishimoto.
Meanwhile Satish Karunakaran, World No. 51 beat World No. 7 Chou Tien Chen in straight sets 21-13, 21-14. A dominating win for the 23 year old.
On the other hand, P.V Sindhu continued her streak of below par performance with another early exit. Losing to T.L Nguyen 11-21, 21-14, 15-21. Sindhu made a good effort to win the second game but ultimately lost the third game.
All eyes are now set on Ayush Shetty who has been coming up the ranks and the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto who have been doing well in the past few tournaments.
