Indian para-shooter Manish Narwal secured a silver medal in the P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024, adding another accolade to his already impressive career.

The event began with a shaky start for Narwal, as he found himself in fifth position after the first 10 shots, much to the anxiety of the Indian supporters at the Chateauroux Arena. As the competition moved into the elimination rounds, Narwal demonstrated remarkable composure and focus, gradually climbing up the ranks and putting himself in contention for a medal.

For a brief moment, Narwal appeared poised to claim the gold, showcasing the same sharp precision that had made him a star in the world of para-shooting. However, a few off-target shots in the final stages, combined with a series of consistent performances by Korea’s Jo Jeongdu, saw Narwal settle for silver.

This silver medal marks Narwal’s fourth podium finish in major international competitions in 2024 alone, underscoring his consistency and tenacity. The 22-year-old from Ballabgarh, Haryana, who has faced significant challenges due to a congenital impairment in his right hand, has been a standout performer in the sport since making his international debut in 2017.

Narwal’s journey in shooting began in 2016 at a local range, where his natural talent quickly caught the attention of coaches. Under the mentorship of Jai Prakash Nautiyal and Subhash Rana, Narwal has consistently excelled, breaking numerous world records and earning medals at the Paralympics, Asian Para Games, and various World Cups.

Narwal’s silver in Paris adds to India’s growing medal tally and solidifies his position as one of the country’s top para-athletes, inspiring millions with his perseverance and skill.
