Hyderabad FC midfielder Mark Zothanpuia is set to join East Bengal FC for the upcoming season, according to sources. The 21-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Kolkata Giant. Zothanpuia has impressed with his midfield prowess in the ongoing season for the Nizams, appearing in 17 ISL matches and contributing with one assist. He has been part of the Hyderabad side since 2019. He was also been part of the victorious campaign in ISL 2020-2021.
The Mizo midfielder had offers from Punjab FC and Odisha FC as well, but East Bengal was successful in securing Zothanpuia.
East Bengal FC had a rollercoaster ride this season, finishing as runner-up in the Durand Cup and clinching the Kalinga Super Cup. However, their hopes of qualifying for the ISL playoffs remains uncertain. The club aims to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season as they prepare to compete in the Asian Champions League 2 preliminary stage of the AFC 2023-24 season.
As per reports, the club has completed all formalities to sign French midfielder Madih Talal from Punjab FC on a two-year contract. Now, their sights are set on Mark Zothanpuia, whose arrival will undoubtedly add depth to their bench.
Hailing from Mizoram, Mark began his professional career with the youth team of Pune City FC before joining the reserve side of Hyderabad FC. His impressive performances earned him a place in the senior squad of the Hyderabad-based club.
East Bengal’s head coach, Carles Cuadrat, has a reputation for nurturing talented youngsters. He has already discovered promising talent from the East Bengal reserve team, including PV Vishnu, Aman CK, and Sayan Bannerjee. Zothanpuia can expect a warm reception in Cuadrat’s camp and ample opportunities to showcase his abilities in the red and gold colors.
