India opener Mayank Agarwal is set to make his maiden appearance in county cricket after signing a short-term deal with Yorkshire for the remainder of the County Championship season.

The 34-year-old will join the squad ahead of their clash against Somerset in Taunton starting on 8 September. His stint will span three matches before he returns to India to lead Karnataka in the upcoming 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season.

Agarwal, currently Karnataka’s captain across formats, comes with a wealth of experience in first-class cricket. In 190 innings, he has amassed 8,050 runs at an average of 43.98, including 18 centuries and 44 fifties. On the international stage, he has scored 1,488 runs in 21 Tests at 41.33, highlighted by four centuries, with a career-best 243 against South Africa. His last Test appearance came in March 2022 against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

Agarwal is no stranger to English conditions, he has previously toured twice with the Indian Test team and featured in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia. During the 2021–22 series in England, he was in line to open but was ruled out of the first match due to concussion. He has also represented India A on two tours of England.

Most recently, Agarwal was seen in action at the Maharaja T20 Trophy, following a title-winning Indian Premier League season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he was drafted in as a replacement for the injured Devdutt Padikkal.

Agarwal joins a growing list of Indian players in county cricket this year, including Khaleel Ahmed, Tilak Varma, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ishan Kishan, Sai Kishore, and Jaydev Unadkat.
