Wasim Akram, the Pakistan legend, recently expressed his opinion on Virat Kohli‘s time as skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Indian cricket team. Akram suggested that Kohli’s dual role as captain of RCB and India perhaps became a burden.
Kohli took over as RCB captain from Daniel Vettori in 2013, and he led the side for nine seasons, before stepping down from the position in 2021. During his tenure as captain, Kohli led RCB in 140 matches, winning 66 of them. Under his captaincy, RCB reached the final in 2016 but finished with the wooden spoon twice in 2017 and 2019.
“I don’t know where did he lack. He is a very hard-working boy. Maybe he was concentrating on Indian cricket too much. And in the IPL, when you are the captain, sometimes, captaincy becomes a burden. So he is better off where he is. He is performing a lot better. It seems like he is enjoying his cricket now,” he said in an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda Cricket.
