India U-19 captain Ayush Mhatre struck a century as India finished on 450/7 at the end of Day 1 against the England U-19 team.

India U-19 are facing England U-19 at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. The Indian side won the toss and elected to bat first. Two promising, high-profile batters from this year’s IPL, Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, opened the innings for India. However, Suryavanshi couldn’t do much and was dismissed for 14.

Captain Ayush then focused on rebuilding the innings with Vihaan Malhotra. The pair added 173 runs off 204 balls for the second wicket. The Mumbai-baser batter played a superb knock, providing much-needed stability after the early loss of Suryavanshi. He scored 102 runs off 115 balls, including 14 fours and two sixes.

Wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu added 179 runs in partnership with Rahul Kumar, a stand that proved instrumental in propelling India to a commanding total by stumps. While Kundu fell just 10 runs short of a century, Rahul made 85, his innings featuring 14 fours and a six. Kundu hit 10 fours and a six during his stay.

At the close of play, R.S. Ambrish was unbeaten on 31, with Henil Patel not out on six. For England, Alex Green, Jack Home, and Archie Vaughan claimed two wickets apiece.
