Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin might have accidentally revealed a major trade deal ahead of the IPL 2026 season. During one of his YouTube videos, Ashwin said that, “Mumbai Indians have secured Shardul Thakur through a trade from Lucknow Super Giants”. This trade is not official yet.

In a now-deleted part of his video on his channel ‘Ash ki Baat’, Ashwin said, “I don’t see any releases happening from Mumbai, they won’t release anyone. Their biggest concern would be finding a replacement for Deepak Chahar, who’s a bit injury prone. They’ve secured Shardul Thakur through a trade from LSG. That has happened, they will probably look for a spinner and will get one too.”

According to some reports, both teams are finalising an all-cash player exchange. In a completely different trade, Arjun Tendulkar could shift over to LSG from MI.  Arjun has been with MI since 2021. He has played only five matches for them where he managed to pick up three wickets and scored 13 runs.

Shardul initially went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega-auction, but later he joined LSG as an injury replacement for Mohsin Khan for INR 2 crore. He grabbed six wickets in his first two matches, which included a four-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He finished his 2025 IPL campaign with 13 wickets from 10 matches.

All 10 IPL teams have to share their retained and released-player list by November 15 ahead of their 2026 auction.
