Seattle Orcas’ swashbuckling batter Shimron Hetmyer held his nerve and smashed a last-ball six to seal a thrilling three-wicket win over MI New York in the ongoing MLC 2025. Chasing 238 for victory, it came down to the final over, with the Orcas finishing the match off the very last delivery—thanks to Hetmyer’s sensational innings of 97 off just 40 balls, featuring five boundaries and nine sixes. The left-hander struck at a phenomenal strike rate of 242.50.
The Orcas’ chase had a shaky start, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Heinrich Klaasen’s brisk 26 helped build momentum, but it was Hetmyer who anchored the innings with a mix of calculated aggression and composure.
Hetmyer Keeps His Cool Under Pressure
With nine runs needed from the final over, bowled by the experienced Kieron Pollard, the tension reached a boiling point. Hetmyer struggled with his running between the wickets after a couple of quick singles and twos. Needing six off the final ball, he summoned his trademark power, launching a full delivery over deep square leg for a match-winning six.
For his remarkable knock, which turned the game on its head, Hetmyer was also named Player of the Match.
Reflecting on the pressure-filled finish at the post-match presentation, Hetmyer said: “This is one of the best knocks, because we were basically backed against the wall in a situation where we really needed to win. I’m still kind of reminiscing over the last game, because I really thought we should have crossed the line then as well. So I’m really happy to be here and to be out in the park to make sure we crossed the line this time. I think prayers always help.”
