Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off a thrilling 12-run win against Delhi Capitals (DC) in today’s IPL 2025 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In a match with plenty of drama, MI’s fielding brilliance sealed the deal, with three stunning run-outs in the 19th over helping them defend a total of 205.
Chasing a target of 206, DC looked on course to chase it down easily after a fiery partnership between Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel. Despite losing opener Jake Fraser-McGurk for a golden duck, the home side raced ahead with the bat. Impact player Karun Nair, coming in at number three, led the charge with a sensational knock. Along with Porel, he added 119 runs for the second wicket in just 10.1 overs.
Porel scored 33 off 25 balls, but Karun Nair lit up the stadium with some stunning shots. He smashed 89 runs from just 40 deliveries, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. It was his first IPL fifty since 2018 and he looked set for a century before Mitchell Santner bowled him with a beautiful delivery that turned and clipped the top of off stump. The dismissal shifted the momentum back in MI’s favour.
After Nair’s wicket, DC’s innings collapsed. They lost four wickets for 45 runs and were reduced to 180/7 in 17.4 overs. DC needed 23 runs from the final 12 balls, and with the in-form Ashutosh Sharma at the crease, hopes were still alive for the home side.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled the crucial 19th over and produced a brilliant effort. But it was not the ball that made the difference — it was the fielding. MI pulled off three run-outs in the last three balls of the over to completely stun DC. Mitchell Santner’s direct hit to run out Mohit Sharma and Will Jacks’ sharp throw to dismiss Ashutosh were world-class efforts.
Earlier, MI posted a strong total of 205/5 in 20 overs. Openers Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav laid the platform with valuable knocks in the 40s. Then came Tilak Varma’s explosive 59 off 33 balls, keeping the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs. Naman Dhir added the finishing touches with a powerful unbeaten 38 off just 17 balls to push the total past 200.
MI’s spinners were outstanding on a pitch that offered some turn. Karn Sharma and Mitchell Santner bowled tight spells and shared five wickets between them in their combined eight overs. With this result, MI secured their second win of the season, while DC suffered their first loss of this season. Karn Sharma was named the Player of the Match for his 3/36 spell.
