With the final playoff spot at stake, tonight’s IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium is nothing short of a knockout. MI is currently on 14 points and needs a win to officially book the spot in the top four. DC, sitting just behind with 13 points, faces a must-win match to stay alive in the tournament. But there is a major concern looming over the match — Mumbai’s weather.

According to the latest forecast, the city is expected to be hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms, especially during the evening. Gusty winds up to 60 km/h, lightning, and 2–4 hours of intense rain are being predicted around match time. With an 80–90% chance of rainfall, there’s a high possibility that the game could be washed out.

What Happens If the Match Gets Washed Out?

If the match is abandoned due to rain, both teams will share one point each. This situation will take MI to 15 points, which could likely ensure a spot in the playoffs. However, DC would be left with 14 points and would have to beat Punjab Kings in their last league match. Even then, their qualification would depend on the net run rate and the outcome of the MI vs Punjab Kings match, where DC would need Punjab to beat Mumbai.

According to recent performances, MI looks more promising as they have won six out of their last seven matches. DC, on the other hand, will miss Mitchell Starc, who exited the tournament early after the one-week suspension of the IPL due to escalating tension between India and Pakistan.
