Mumbai Indians (MI) are taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today, March 31. MI won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Trent Boult struck early with an excellent yorker to dismiss Sunil Narine (0 off 2). Quinton de Kock attempted to loft a delivery over mid-off but was caught off Deepak Chahar’s bowling after scoring just one run. Then came the surprise package and the primary cause of KKR’s downfall today—Ashwani Kumar.
Ashwani started by dismissing KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane (11 off 7), who was caught by Tilak Varma. Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought for a whopping ₹23.75 crore in the auction, continued his poor form, scoring just three runs off nine balls before falling to Chahar. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who looked promising and played some great shots, was eventually dismissed by MI captain Hardik Pandya after scoring 26 off 16 balls.
Rinku Singh (17 off 14) also threw his wicket away to Ashwani. Then, the debutant bowler delivered two scrambled-seam deliveries to clean-bowl two crucial batters, Manish Pandey (19 off 14) and Andre Russell (5 off 11), who could have helped stabilize KKR’s innings. MI’s youngster Vignesh Puthur dismissed Harshit Rana, who managed four runs off eight balls.
Ramandeep Singh was the last man out, caught by Hardik off Mitchell Santner’s bowling after scoring 22 off 12 balls, which included one four and two sixes.
KKR were bowled out for 116 in 16.2 overs, their sixth-lowest total against MI in IPL.
