Rohit Sharma, who was in great form during the Champions Trophy, played a match-winning knock of 76 off 83 balls, which included seven boundaries and three sixes, against New Zealand in the final, leading India to victory. However, he is now struggling to get going in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Rohit was retained by MI, and fans have high hopes for the opener. For MI to win this year’s trophy, they need Rohit to fire at the top of the innings. Rohit started MI’s opening match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with a four-ball duck, losing his wicket to Khaleel Ahmed. He received an inswinger from Khaleel, and attempted a flick, but was caught at mid-wicket by Shivam Dube.

Rohit Sharma has now scored 21 runs in three games in the IPL 2025

In the second match, Rohit scored eight runs off four balls. He started well with two back-to-back boundaries off Mohammed Siraj—the first by flicking the ball through mid-on and the second through fine leg. However, on the very next ball, Siraj broke through Rohit’s defence, bowling him out.

In the third match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rohit scored 13 off 12 balls, including a six off a free hit against Harshit Rana. However, he later gave an easy catch to Harshit off a short ball from Andre Russell. Michael Vaughan joked that Rohit should imagine himself playing in India’s blue jersey rather than MI’s blue jersey to regain his form.
