Mumbai Indians (MI) batting coach Kieron Pollard reminded everyone of his early prediction about Rohit Sharma after the Indian opener roared back into form in IPL 2025.
After a slow start with the bat in the early phase of the tournament, Rohit found his rhythm with consecutive fifties, reigniting his form when MI needed him most. He top-scored with an unbeaten 76 against Chennai Super Kings and followed it up with a 70-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad last week.
Reflecting on Rohit’s resurgence, Pollard pointed out that even during the opener’s struggles, the team never lost faith in him. Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of MI’s fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Pollard said they always believed that Rohit would find his way back.
“If my memory serves me right, at the start of the competition, the question around Rohit was different. I said, sitting right here, that we would be singing his praises soon — and here we are. We always believed he’d come good, and I just want to urge everyone to give players the time and support they need,” Pollard said.
Pollard also stressed that MI’s recent upturn in batting form isn’t solely down to Rohit or Suryakumar Yadav, highlighting the collective contributions from the entire batting unit.
“We’re all very happy in the Mumbai dressing room. We were happy even at the start, knowing that the form would turn around — and long may it continue, so the headlines remain positive,” Pollard added.
MI will take on LSG at the Wankhede Stadium riding the momentum of a four-match winning streak, looking to further strengthen their playoff push.
