Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a fifth successive win in IPL 2025, getting the better of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a huge margin of 54 runs at Wankhede Stadium. After MI put up 215 on the board for the loss of seven wickets, Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling unit as they bundled out LSG for 161 in 20 overs.

It was a shaky start to the chase for the visitors as Aiden Markram got out early for just nine runs. Nicholas Pooran (27 off 15) and Mitchell Marsh (34 off 24) got starts but failed to convert. Will Jacks took the wicket of Pooran and the skipper, Rishabh Pant, in the same over.

Ayush Badoni (35 off 22) and David Miller (24 off 16) tried to stabilise the chase, but failed to shift the gears and lost their wickets. Ultimately, no other significant contribution came their way as LSG fell short by a distance.

Bumrah shone with a four-wicket haul, and now, he is the leading wicket-taker for MI (174 in 139 matches) in the history of IPL, surpassing the former MI great, Lasith Malinga (170 in 122 matches). Along with him and Jacks’ two wickets, Trent Boult also managed three and debutant Corbin Bosch took one.

Not only that wicket, Bosch earlier played an impactful knock of 20 off 10 down the order and gave MI a strong finish. Despite Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav’s quickfire fifties, the finishing touches from Naman Dhir (25* off 11) and Bosche were needed to reach that 215-run mark.

It was a bad day with the bat for Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. Both got out to Mayank Yadav, the young pacer who made a comeback from a back injury that had sidelined him since October 2024.

Jacks was named the Player of the Match for his all-round show. During the post-match presentation, MI skipper, Pandya sounded positive, saying: “The momentum which we had and (we have been) carrying that momentum, and everyone has been chipping in. Everyone kept taking the chances.

“At the end, it looked like we had lost of a few wickets. But Bosch and Naman came in and chipped in. We knew when to kill the game and we were awesome. The good teams are made of that when everyone comes in and chips in.”

With this win, MI are now in the second position with 12 points from 10 games, with a healthy net run rate of +0.889. LSG are sixth with 10 points from 10 outings.
