Mumbai Indians (MI) opener Rohit Sharma will undergo a fitness test on Sunday after a practice session in the nets, which will determine whether he can feature in their upcoming clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, April 7. Rohit missed MI’s last outing against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) due to a knee injury sustained during training ahead of the match.
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene spoke to the media ahead of the much-anticipated match against RCB and shared an update on Rohit’s condition.
“Rohit is doing well and is scheduled to bat today,” Jayawardene said. “He took a knock on the leg while batting, which caused some discomfort. We had a travel day yesterday, so he’ll have a net session today, and we’ll assess him afterward.”
Rohit has struggled for runs in MI’s first three matches, with scores of 0, 8, and 13. So far, he’s been used primarily as an impact substitute. If passed fit, his return would be a welcome boost for MI, who will hope he finds form at their home venue.
Bumrah set for his comeback
Jayawardene also confirmed that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is fit and available for selection, potentially set to feature for the first time in the IPL 2025 season.
The availability of both Rohit and Bumrah significantly strengthens MI ahead of what promises to be an intense battle against RCB.
