Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a comfortable four-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL 2025. This victory marked MI’s third win of the season. However, a controversial moment during the game sparked debate, as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakaravarthy voiced his disagreement with a no-ball decision.
The incident happened on the fifth ball of the seventh over during MI’s innings. Zeeshan Ansari was bowling when Ryan Rickelton played a shot that resulted in a catch by SRH skipper Pat Cummins. Initially, it looked like a legal dismissal, but replays revealed that wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen’s gloves had moved in front of the stumps before the ball was played.
As a result, the delivery was called a no-ball, and MI were awarded a free hit. This decision did not sit well with Chakaravarthy, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his frustration. He wrote: “If the keeper’s gloves come in front of the stumps, it should be a dead ball and a warning to the keeper so that he doesn’t do that again !!! Not a no ball and a free hit!! What did the bowler do🙄🙄 Thinking out loud!! What do u all think???”

Chakaravarthy has been in good form this season, picking up 10 wickets in seven matches. However, his team, the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, have struggled to find consistent form. KKR have managed only three wins from their first seven games. Varun and his teammates will look to bounce back when they face Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 21 in Kolkata.
