The San Francisco Unicorns defeated the Texas Super Kings by seven wickets in the 10th match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025. SF chased down the 199-run target with ease in just 16.1 overs to seal the win.

TSK skipper Faf du Plessis smashed a brilliant century while batting first, scoring 100 off 51 balls and helping his team post a total of 198 for five in 20 overs. However, in reply, SF’s openers—captain Matthew Short and Finn Allen—gave their side a flying start with an explosive 117-run stand in just 8.3 overs. Short smashed 61 off 32 while Allen hit 78 off 35.

At number three, Jake Fraser-McGurk contributed a crucial 37 off 25, and SF comfortably chased down the target. Short earned the Player of the Match award for his blistering knock.

“I think batting first literally feels like the wind is stronger” – Faf du Plessis

During the post-match presentation, TSK skipper du Plessis reflected on his performance with the bat and his aim to set a big total for the opposition.

“I looked yesterday at a net and could not hit the ball in the middle of the bat, so I was very frustrated. So luckily today, I needed that just to get your campaign on the road. It’s a nice wicket to bat on this, so I think it’s important that when you get in, you make sure you get a big score,” he said.

“I think batting first literally feels like the wind is stronger. So you feel like one side is a bit harder to hit into, and I think that makes it a little bit easy to bowl at the depth when you’ve got two new batters coming in versus now you can feel it’s not as breezy, which just opens up both sides of the ground, but definitely, as I said, the foundation was there to go 20 runs more at the back end then,” he concluded.
