No matter the sport, it’s rare to witness a father playing with or against his son in a professional match. However, Afghanistan’s 40-year-old legendary all-rounder Mohammad Nabi experienced this proud moment when he played against his son, Hassan Eisakhil, in the Shpageeza Cricket League (SCL), Afghanistan’s premier T20 tournament. Nabi, however, got a taste of the new generation’s talent when his son smashed his very first ball for six and went on to score a fluent half-century. The video of the father-son face-off has since gone viral, attracting attention from fans worldwide.
Nabi was representing Mis Ainak Region against his son’s team, Amo Region. The veteran off-spinner came on to bowl the ninth over of the Amo innings, with Eisakhil on strike. The 18-year-old launched his father’s first delivery over mid-wicket for a huge six. In the video, Eisakhil appears to say something to Nabi, but no smiles were exchanged between the two.
Eisakhil went on to top-score for his team, making 52 runs off just 36 balls at a strike rate of 144.44. His innings included five fours and two sixes. Amo Region posted a total of 162.
Nabi, meanwhile, did not bowl another over after conceding 12 runs in his first. Mis Ainak Region chased down the target comfortably in 17 overs, with Nabi finishing unbeaten on six.
