India pacer Mohammed Siraj said that had Jasprit Bumrah not rested during the two Test matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England, it might have led to serious consequences.

Speaking on ‘The Idea Exchange’ by The Indian Express, Siraj further explained how Bumrah is an invaluable asset to the Indian team.

“Bumrah bhai doesn’t worry about outside opinions,” said Siraj. “He had a serious back injury and underwent major surgery. Had he bowled in that match, one can’t say whether he would have bowled again or not, had he broken down. It’s that serious. That injury is very sensitive. His bowling action is very demanding. He is such an important bowler for India, and his availability is crucial – from the Asia Cup to next year’s World Cup and beyond.”

The 31-year-old Bumrah was criticised for taking a rest during two Test matches in England. However, his teammate Siraj has supported his decision.

“Indian fans should understand that he is the backbone of the team and be assured that whenever possible, he will definitely play. Jassi bhai made the perfect decision,” he said.

Bumrah is currently playing in the Test series against the West Indies. With the T20 World Cup in sight, the Indian pace spearhead has been included in the squad for the five-match T20I series in Australia. However, he has not been included in the ODI squad as part of workload management.
